How do organisms evolve to deal with adversity? How does a cell control which genes are being expressed and when? How can we control which genes are being expressed? What kind of communities do microbes form? These are some of the big questions we address in Bi 1x. In typical years, we explore the great ideas of biology not just with our minds, but with our hands, with microscopes, with computers, and with each other. In this extraordinary year, in which we are geographically separated from each other and from the lab, we cannot explore these ideas with our hands. But we will still dive into them with our minds and with our computers and, most importantly, with each other.
